Lately Sam’s dress up has become very specific. When she dresses like Sleeping Beauty her hair must be down, when she’s Belle it’s a low ponytail. Tiana however proved to be a little tougher to crack. How does she get that perfect bouffant right smack on top of her head anyway? A simple bun is way too puny, Tiana has a full on pouf that no little girl’s natural hair could acheive. Don’t let the fact that she’s animated put you off, with about 5 minutes & a wayward sock you can perfect her hairstyle too. Cat’s out of the bag Tiana.
I’m actually wearing a sock bun in the video as well, the instructions for a grown up version are the exact same except with a grown up sock. Preferably one that matches your hair color. Also, if you put your hair up while it’s damp you’ll end up with really pretty curls at the end of the day! My new favorite hairstyle by far…very boho chic.

Thank you so much for posting this. I never can get my hair to do the “sock bun” thing but the way you explained it, well I’m gonna try again. Plus the after shot of your hair is awesome.
thanks again!
p.s. Sam is so adorable!

Could you possibly be any cuter?

LOVE this! I’m totally doing the grown up version of “Tiana” hair for a summer wedding I’m going to. I’ll be all kinds of pregnant by the end of summer and will need my hair off my neck. How stylish!

LOVE LOVE IT!!! Adding Sam (I MEAN SAMANTHA!!) to it made extra special!!

Is it just me or do you way look like Julia Roberts in the last picture? LOVE your hair!
Natasha
Um, yes please. I’ll totally take that!
Brittany
Your daughter makes me want a baby that much more. LOL First comes love — check. Then comes marriage — come on October 7! Then comes a baby in the baby carriage….maybe in a couple of years. Ahh Samantha is adorable and I love this sock bun hair thing. Maybe I should try this.
susan
Natasha, you are absolutely gorgeous looking!

Love the sock bun. My daughter dances and I always loved how she looks in a bun, but if she doesn’t have to, she doesn’t want it that way. Now she has short hair (maybe just below her ears) and I’m not sure how we’re going to make it slick back for her recital.

Adorable post! I love the sock bun. Too cute!
Nicole
So how did you get your kid to be so gosh darn cute?!
Karen
Love it! You and Sam are both so cute.
Ashley
Totally going to wear my hair like this now! I kept hearing about sock buns, but I had no idea what they were or how to do them. Thanks for sharing this cute tutorial!
Allison
HOORAY! I’m finally able to sport a sock bun today! I’m too tall to sit up straight in my car now but that’s ok b/c I look cute 😉
Wendy
My hair is fine and straight and none of these hair tutorials ever work, because I have the silky smooth hair that everything just falls right out… until now! I immediately cut up an old sock and tried this last night, and it totally worked. I can’t wait for my daughter’s hair to grow long enough to do it for her. Thanks!
Mindy
she is flippin adorable!

Thank you Natasha (and Samster)! for doing this. My “friend” wore one to her Christmas party and did it wrong and there are unfortunate pictures all over the interwebs with a sock showing….I’ll be sure to do it right now! Or I mean my friend will do it right…errr. 🙂
Natasha
Sometimes my bun shows too, it’s hard to avoid, that’s why it’s good to pick a sock that’s close to your hair color!
kandace
you are so beautimous in the last picture!!! i did the sock bun (for the first time) a couple of days ago and all my hubby could groan about was how it reminded him of the King of Queens episode where Carrie starts wearing a bun allllll the time until she realizes she looks like a librarian—or so the guys think. i think the bun is cute and a great way to get your hair up! i am pro-bun.
Natasha
That’s hilarious! I wouldn’t be surprised if guys think it’s absolutely ridiculous. I think I dress for other women more than man anyway though so whatever.
Lucy
OHEMGEE! it worked! feeling so epic!!
Natasha
YAY!!!!
Emily
Finally, a hair tutorial that I think I can actually pull off! You and Sam are both adorable!!
Christina
So first of all, I must thank you for posting your vid tute… I was planning to youtube my brains out until I found a decent sock bun explanation! You saaaaaaaaaaaaved me!!!! 🙂
Secondly, it worked like a charm for my little ballerina (yes, and me!). The other ballet moms and I were talking about buns at Bug’s class the week before, and I told them MY way of getting her hair in a smooth little bun, but it takes a ton of bobby pins (which Bug never complains about, but I feel bad anyway). I promised them all to learn the sock bun before recital next month. I tried it out on both of us for her class yesterday, and got SO many compliments and even executed a quick how-to of my own on one of the other girls. (YES, I brought an extra cut-off sock with me lol).
After ballet, we went to get Bug’s ears pierced as part of her 4 year old birthday extravaganza, and the sock bun was perfect for keeping her hair off her ears the rest of the day… and the curls!! OH the curls were so pretty!!
So all that to say, THANKS Natasha!!!! 😀 My little Bug slept in a sock bun last night to keep hair off her ears and so her hair would be curly today! We’re obsessed!
Natasha
Yay!! That’s awesome! I’m wondering if we should let Sam get her ears pierced for her 4th birthday, I think it’d be so so cute. But then again I’ve had mine done since I was a newborn…
Joanna
Where did you get her little crown? My girl child was watching the video with me and gasped when she saw it.
Natasha
You know, I can’t even keep track anymore…I think it’s a dollar bin one from target or a goodie bag prize from the party store. Those girls sure love their crowns!
Joanna
Ah, okay. Thank you! The nearest Target to me is still about 30 minutes away. I know, how do I survive? They surely do love their crowns. I found a thing on Pinterest where you can make crowns out of lace. I need to get around to doing it, I keep putting it off.
