I used How Sweet It Is’ recipe for the crock pot base but as much I desperately wanted to make biscuits from scratch it just wasn’t.gonna.happen. And you know what, I’m sure there’s something to be said for making them yourself but the can-o-biscuit-dough was pretty darn good if I say so & yes, I DO say so.
This was so yummy, so comforting, so utterly all American cold rainy day. Peter said it was one of his all time favs. Which just makes me wonder why the heck do I spend an hour slaving over complicated recipes when I could just throw this in a crock pot & have him think I’m homemaker of the year? Nonetheless, if you like moist, fall apart chicken & enjoy having doughy bread to dunk in your light, sweet, broth then this is for you. Follow the link above for most of the recipe but for my cheater’s route whip out a roll of refrigerated biscuit dough (you know, the ones that come in a roll where you have to pop the can open on the line & it always scares you, like, every.single.time. It’s getting quite ridiculous. You should seriously get a grip.) and around 30 minutes before dinner place biscuit dough rolled into small balls all around the top of the crockpot. Replace the lid and let the steam cook the biscuits for around 25 minutes or until cooked through. (Your crockpot should still be on low) They’ll always be dense & doughy but you just don’t want them to be raw. Mmm, it’s darn cold out, I might just have to make this over the weekend…

Okay, that is going on my menu for next week. Yum. And I had to laugh about the dough, because I am darn near phobic of that stuff. It is ridiculous. I KNOW that it is going to happen, I TRY to prepare myself, but still. Every single time I jump. Kind of like that shot of air in your eye glaucoma test they do… I steel myself and my inner dialogue is all, “Okay, just chill. You know it’s coming. Don’t react, you idiot. You look ridiculous when you jump (and maybe squeal a bit). Just sit still. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in… EEAKKK!”
Natasha
LOL, and oh my gosh yes, the anticipation of that eye test is practically torture! Your comment made me seriously giggle (:

I also like to do this recipe with bisquick biscuit mix on top. It gets a little bit crustier on the top (the longer you keep it in) and it sucks out some of the liquid, but it’s definitely one of my faves. I definitely have to try it with the can-O-biscuit dough.

I agree, every time I pop that can I jump. You would think after twenty some years I would be over it but I guess not. I do a similar thing with beef stew. It really does make them yummy.
Natasha
Beef stew huh, hmmm, that’s a darn good idea!

Hi Natasha! What brand of can-o-biscuit did you use? Any particular kind?
Natasha
Hmm, I’m not sure, I think maybe it was Trader Joe’s brand??
