Well, the good thing about planning a birthday party that has gotten way too big is it’s motivation for me to finish projects around the house that I’ve been putting off for too long. I’m so glad I finally made this for our livingroom, I just LOVE it!
This is an expansion of this project that I stumbled upon last year, it’s really easy and if butterflies aren’t your thing you could do any shape that you have a punch of! I think stars or hearts would be really cute.
You’ll need:
*A frame that has inserts or depth so you can have 3d objects inside. (Michael’s has a ton of these)
*Lots of different paper- I used scrapbooking sheets, newspaper, photographs and most punches were from the giant stack of catalogs that somehow make it to my mailbox EVERY DAY.
*A punch – I like the Martha Stewart ones
*Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
1st- On the base of your picture (I used the insert that comes in the frame and just flipped it over) measure out where you want each butterfly to go and mark with a ruler. My markings are 1in apart between each punch and the rows are spaced 1 and a half inches apart .
2nd- Start punching!
3rd- Lay out design, try to space out different colors and textures but still leave it random
4th- Glue into place, if you use a nice big dab it will give the punches some height. I also folded their wings back a bit before placing so they’d have more dimension
5th- (Optional) I added pieces of brown grosgrain ribbon around the outer border since I didn’t have a mat to fit.
Hang and admire! P was so impressed when he saw this hanging on the wall, it really adds interest!

I stumbled upon your blog a few weeks ago and I'm so very glad I did! You are full of so many good ideas and perhaps even more of a craftaholic then me! I created my own butterfly college, everyone who comes over asks where I bought it 🙂

did your punches ever get stuck? trying to make this for a friend’s baby but my punches seem to keep getting stuck, I’m thinking it’s the cardstock, just let me know what you tried if they did get stuck.
Thanks.
