Man oh man, was I a nervous wreck for this. I SWORE I would not cut Samster’s hair for years, I wanted beautiful long curls cascading down her back for her 2nd bday. Just like the hippie baby on the California Baby bottle. But, as life often turns out, I ended up with a mullet instead of beautiful locks. I think it’s because Samster went bald in patches as an infant, therefore some spots had a bit of a headstart over others for growing in.
This is the fun game where Samster takes all the groceries out of the pantry & lines them up by the front door. Mommy just loves it.
But you know what, it’s not that bad. It’s kind of awesome. And non-mullet-y which is always nice. Honestly, I don’t even think you’d notice if I hadn’t told you. It’s just even now, with a bit of shape, & guess what? More curl! I realize this may be a somewhat boring post to many of you but for those of you mommies that have gone through baby’s 1st haircut I’m hoping you understand the trauma of the situation…for me.

Very cute cut! π

I totally understand, I have twin girls, one had lots and lots of hair, the other one didn't grow until she was past two. Your Samster looks really cute

We had to cut the curls off our now 4yr old last summer. Between working and the new baby struggling to get the tangles out was just more than I could handle. I couldn't even take her to the salon though – made my sister do it. It was tragic, but she loved her new stacked bob. We're growing it out again now – and already starting to see those unruly waves coming back.
With the baby, the first haircut was for bangs (we avoided them entirely with big girl). And now I'm trimming them myself to prolong her eventual second full haircut. And yes she is getting the same waves her sister has in the back (YEAH!).
Moms understand. And Sam's hair looks great. Bet she got some long layers cut to bring out the curl.

She looks adorable! I love how serious she looks when it was getting cut!

She's one of the cutest babies around — I think she'd look good in just about any hairstyle! π

I didn't want to cut my son's hair either. He had curls in the back which I loved, but they went away after his first haircut. Her hair is really cute, they did a good job!!
Alex
She looks so adorable and annoyed in the pictures! LOL. My husband is trying to convince me to cut my little guy's hair but I won't do it. Sure we only brush it when we go out and other times its a big curly red haired mess, but I love it!

she is so adorable! looks very cute. My daughter is about the same age and has out of control bangs – always in her eyes because she doesn't keep anything in her hair – so my husband keeps saying to cut it, but i don't want to! I waited so long for it to grow. guess like your daughter, she will look cute either way.

OHHH Natasha! I'm in the same boat! My poor 19mo Buggie has a wicked mullet, plus it for some reason looks thicker on one side than the other (just the way the ends flip I think). I've been debating getting it cut to even it out some….but I love love her long hair (in the back, lol). I know it's just hair and it will grow out…but I'm nervous!

first haircuts! I had to give in recently too on my son, i was hoping to let it get nice and shaggy like a surfer dude, but it got mulletty – so now im trimming it to shape it haha!
Samster loves those yoga pants huh!??

awwwwwwwww! I hope you saved a strand of that precious baby hair!
Mommyto2
she is so cute. When my baby girl finally gets hair I do not want to cut it either!
Julie
She's adorable! I held out to almost 2 and a half! And even then I allowed about an inch! I totally understand!

Just wait until she finds a pair of the scissors that you have so carefully hidden away and gives herself a haircut. THAT'S trauma! You won't even recognize the wail that comes out of your mouth. Hide them with care.

I struggled with the same decision about 2 months ago. Maddie was almost 3 1/2 and had long curly hair down to her bottom when you pulled it straight. Problem was that the long hair was only over about 2/3 of her head in a very fine layer over much shorter hair. The amount I chopped off was so tiny (we called it her rat tail) that I was amazed when she ended up with a shoulder length bob. Luckily it is a beautiful thick, curly and even – a million times better! Samster's hair looks gorgeous too!
Emily
It looks great! I'm glad to hear there's more curl. I'm hoping my little girl will get some curl but we're still in pre mullet stage. ha ha.
Gabby
I want to go my baby's hair out long, too, but she's also in a situation where some parts are longer. I don't know what will happen as she gets bigger.
Kimberly
I was pretty scared that the curls would all wave bye-bye when I got my son's hair cut for the first time this year. Fortunately, it's just as curly as ever!
Your Samster is super cute!

dreading the first cuts for my little girl, but yours turned out so well! i think everyone agrees the first cut IS the deepest π

My son was 9 months old when he needed his first hair cut. He had had at least 6 before his 2nd birthday. So, although I understand your anxiety over the event, it has definitely worn off for me! It is certainly different with boys though!

Oh, and I meant to say, she looks so CALM! With Jaxon, it is a mess of candy bribery and distraction. And even with all that there is almost always a few attempts at smacking the poor woman trying to cut his hair. And he LIKES her when she doesn't make him wear the cape. π

I totally, totally understand! None of my kids had curls at all, but I was still very very reluctant to get the twins' first hair cuts because they were my last babies, and there wouldn't be any more of that oh-so-soft baby hair in my house once theirs was gone. On a girl a bit of a mullet was ok, on a boy, less so. My husband (in his only ever act of outright sneakiness in the 15 years we have been together) got his brother the hairdresser to come over while I was due to be at the gym and give them a quick tidy up. The boy looked great, but the girl hadn't needed it! At least they kept me some hair – mixed together!

it looks so cute! Sadie has a bit of a mullet too, I'm hoping her bangs growing out will help π

I put off cutting my son's hair FOREVER because I did not want to lose the baby look… but after the 5000th person told me that I had an adorable GIRL I knew it was time!
Your little one's cut is DARLING! And it will still be able to grow out to the beautiful curls that you want too! π
Katherine
It is a big milestone for a wee one π Sam is a doll!! Just keep your scissors put up. Take my advise. My daughter who is almost 4 recently cut off all of her hair. I almost died when I found her with 2 pairs of scissors and a haircut that was and still is all kinds of jacked up..lol
emma_G
Sam is adorable and still has heaps of hair π
My little girl is 2 year and 2 months old and she has half the hair of your little girl π My son had his hair cut yesterday and she cried cause she couldn't get hers cut π
The Family of Three
Oh boy, do I understand. My baby had major-mullet, as in…people were commenting! So we had to do it at 18mos. But now at 2.5 her hair is very long and beautiful. AND…all one length! It's a good choice and she'll thank you when mullets never come back in style!
The Oxford Family
She looks adorable and more "finished" if you know what I mean! I swore I wouldn't cut my boys hair before his 1st bday and at 9 months we just broke down and did it! He was really starting to resemble Jack Nicholson so it was time π He looks so handome but old π

The first haircut is always a nervous one. I remember when my daughter first had her haircut. I think I almost passed out, hoping that she would have some hair left. Things worked out good, and it gets easier the more time goes by. good job for smiling and being happy throughout the whole time. π
ascrapoftime
She is so cute! I always wanted my daughter to have the long beautiful hair that I could braid, or do whatever with. She is five now, and it still isn't long. Her's grows like a mullet too… for some reason the front is just not cooperating with the grow long plan.
Froggylady
Madelyn has the cutest curls and I'm terrified to cut them! Her hair is still pretty short, but is pretty unruly sometimes. I just let it go, there's no use in fighting it. The only problem is this long pointy piece that hangs in her eyes on the really dry days. When it's humid, it curls up so cutely!
Ellie
when i took leyla to get her fringe cut i was terrified haha, i still havent gotten the length cut, im far too worried to go that far just now π x

It is a big milestone! So cute! Amazing cut! I think it’s really difficult to cut babie’s hair but you get this activity really weell! congrats!
