This week we’re starting two major makeovers in my house. One, I’m moving Sam out of her current nursery (see below)and am redecorating the room across the hall to be her new room. The pic above is a sitting room/upstairs office that’s off of our bedroom. When she was a newborn I couldn’t stand the thought of her being a whopping 15ft across the hall so this way she was in our room without really being IN our room. (and yes, I painted each and every one of those freaking stripes. It took me two weeks but it was also pre-Sam and right after I got fired from a crappy job that I couldn’t believe they fired me from before I could quit.)
I love that room but over the last few months it’s only been used for daytime napping which really isn’t very practical because then I can’t get anything done in my adjoining bedroom during naps, which of course is the only time to get anything done!
The other problem is we brought Sam to bed with us “just while she was teething” which of course has stuck ever since. That’s where makeover part two comes in. I’m going to attempt, no, scratch that, I AM going to sleep train Sam this week. Ugghhh, just saying that gives me shivers. I’m absolutely terrified of how tortuous this is going to be but something’s gotta give. She wakes me up all night, throwing herself on top of me, pulling my nose, sticking her butt in her dad’s face…and I think we’re keeping her up just as much. We’re already exhausted and grumpy so I figure why not sleep train her now, get really exhausted and grumpy for a few days, and get it over with. Oh, please be with me Jesus!
I am excited about painting her room though! Today I bought “Aviary Blue” for her ceiling and “Rice Patty” for her walls from Sherwin-Williams. I’m going to do a “dog park” theme in her room inspired by a pair of her gymboree pajamas which I loved, they had the cutest whimsical trees, flowers and dogs on them. Also Sam is obsessed with our dogs so I’ll think she’ll get a kick out of having some on her walls.
Here’s a picture of a bib someone is selling on Ebay that’s the print I’m using for inspiration

Okay fabulous nursery…would like to do mine in September? Just asking. That nursery is gorgeous!
Next, it takes three days to establish or break a habit with any child. So for three whole days you are going to fight/claw/kick/scream your way into having a child who can sleep in a semi-big kids room.
Good luck and please please please show pictures.

Don’t worry, Sam (and you and P) will love to be able to sleep all through the night once you get through the hard part. If you need inspiration with a happy ending, watch nanny 911. Really, it only takes a few days and I know you can do it.
Sam’s nursery looks amazing! I wanted to do stripes in my son’s room too, but never got around to it. Seemed like a lot of work, but it would have definitely paid off. I’ll have to think of something cool for his toddler (big boy) room next. Please keep up posted on your (and Sam’s progress). I very much enjoy reading your posts.
