Isn’t this the sweetest, most lovely shower curtain you’ve ever seen?? It’s from Anthropologie & I’m just in love with it. My girlfriend Brooke has it in her daughter’s bathroom and it’s even prettier in person.
Now here’s the problem, I can look at this and the first thing I think is, huh, that’s just a bunch of large ruffles sewn on a big rectangle! I can do that! But then I couldn’t think of where I could find such a pretty selection of variegated colors? Any ideas? What really makes it so stunning is how nicely one flows into the next. Also for that width I’d need what, 3 yds of each color? By that time I’m probably spending $100 for the fabric, right? Right? Can you tell I’m trying to talk myself into this? (;

This project would definitely only be worth it if you really wanted to prove to yourself you could do it. Otherwise, just buy it!

You could just buy some white fabric and a few pkgs of RIT dye. Just start with the lightest color and keep adding more dye until you get to the last ruffle. I'm sure it'd be easy to do…you'd just have to make some button holes or something for the curtain hooks! I think you should try it 🙂

It's ADORABLE!! I like the dying idea.
Another thought would be to look at the skirt/dress section in GoodWill.
It would be hit or miss – but maybe you could find enough gathered skirts (ya know, the ones with TOOOOOOONS of fabric) in the right colors you could make it cheaper that way.

OOoooo! You guys have got me thinking now! I'm totally digging the dye idea. So the question is do I make one big tub of dye, put all the ruffle pieces in and then just pull out pieces at different times so they're different shades based on how long they soaked? Or do I dye a piece, add some more dye, dye another one, add more dye…and so on? I don't have a lot of dye experience…

I think for the dye, you should get 2 different, but similar colors, and make 3 different vats of dye…one with color 1, one with color 2 and one with a mix of both. Then you can get the good variation like the anthro one. I'd just dip them all in and then take them out at different times depending on how dark you want them. I totally want you to try this so we can see how it looks!! Ha!

Do you think I could pull that off as curtains in the baby nursery? I have the same colors in the bedding with a pink glider for accent..
Appreciate your help!

This tutorial is so easy and I like the white version. So classy! But I am sure you could find different colored vinyl shower curtains for wayyy cheap. Hello, $5 from $118? I don't think there is even a competition there.
