The other day Sophie asked me why I don’t sew her any dresses?
UGH! ((twist knife))
I guess Sam is just so much more vocal about her interest in fashion & dress design so we end up having these little sewing pow-wows in my sewing room & I make her things. That and the fact that the bigger she gets the more she needs clothes whereas Sophie Monster inherits all of her sister’s hand me downs.
Once I crawled out from underneath the massive amounts of guilt I promptly took her to my fabric stash & let her pick out what she’d like me to make her dress out of, in true Sophie fashion she went straight past the glitter & princesses & chose a tshirt with a giant sly fox head on it. We do love foxes in our house… The dress was a breeze to whip up, it’s a peasant dress top based on this tutorial (the same one I used for Sam’s DIY Cinderella dress) & then three strips of upcycled knits for the skirt. (*tip* I used the hemline of the original tee’s sleeves as a casing for the elastic on the dresses’ sleeves. Love me a shortcut!) I also chose to do the skirt seams on the wrong side to add some little pops of pink. The headband, which might just make Sophie edible it’s so stinkin’ cute on her, is made from a leftover strip of the leopard knit, serged pink on one end & tied in a messy bow that’s then stitched in place.
(A few of you asked about the dresser in the background, you can find the before/after makeover of it here!)
Aw, Soph is TOO cute! Her dress is a perfect representation of her, how special 🙂
You are talented!
Has Sophie ever had a fun birthday party? It always seems like it’s all about Sam. I know you said you were planning a messy one, but that post had links for all of Sam’s other parties, and none of Soph.
I knowwww, she actually hasn’t had a big one yet, this will be her first coming up at the end of the month. Last year we did a small elmo one with just family but poor kid totally got jipped. Although honestly she was too young to know any better until now.
So. Stinking. Cute. That is all.
i laughed so hard at this post. Mommy guilt is the WORST. love your blog xoxoxo
