Do you ever get started on a project and even though it starts to go downhill you keep trying to find ways to save it? You’ve invested so much time already, maybe just a little more glue here or a bit more color there…sometimes the perseverance pays off and sometimes your husband just asks, “Is that what you’re wearing??”
(By the way, I started using “photo booth” on my Mac blog pics, sorry if it’s a bit grainy…still figuring it out)
Here we are with the original intention…skirt:
At first I was just using the Alexander Henry ‘Birdseed’ Fabric which I LUVVV to make a neat high waisted skirt but then I cut it too small for my hips so I got the idea for panels, easy way to add material, right? THEN my little brain thought I’d use the front of an old button down shirt for one of the panels that way I wouldn’t have to sew on a zipper. At the time I thought it was GENIUS but in hindsight I suppose it was more laziness. Anyway, then the back looked funny so I tried to incorporate some of the shirt material between those panels, at this point I had invested both of Sam’s naps on this skirt and was not giving up, I modeled it for P and he just gave me a deer in the headlights look of “I don’t know what to say here, I know I shouldn’t say it looks bad but she’ll know if I’m lying soo…” “That’s interesting.” Is what finally came out of his mouth.
Surely there must be something I could do…
Hmm, what if I hiked it up and made it a top??

ME:”Oh. Guess So.”
If you have a MAC I insist that you try photo booth, Samster and I had a great photoshoot after my little ‘sewing gone wrong fashion show’.

Howdy, I found your blog from Happy Together and I am so glad I did! I love this post – honesty in a blog is so refreshing! Everyone struggles with projects but most blogs just show you the professional looking results. (Just so you know tho, I don't think anyone else can tell you had a tough time with this one. It looks great!)
Anyway, I really love this as a top on you. Wear it with pride, you didn't mess up at all. =)
The Photo Booth pics are adorable too!

So being brutally honest. Don't wear it as a skirt but as a top I like it! Very cute!
Angela
I love it as a top. With jeans or a white or yellow A-line skirt.

OH dear….. No… no… no.. I'm thinking you could make it into a dress for Samster…. π

Cute!!!
You can get the sharpie pens at target or walmart. I think office supply store (i.e. Max or Depot) have them too! I think Walmart has them on sale right now and Target had the pack with different colors on sale last week. Good luck finding them! You'll love 'em π

Ok it's definitely better as a top than a skirt. π

Top, not skirt. It's actually a totally cool looking top!
An
As a top, but with another belt, something larger and in another colour.

I like this as a top, not as a skirt. And I agree with An, a thicker belt would be nice.
By the way, I love your blog! I've been reading it for a while now and within the past few months actually became a follower. Started reading it because of your husband's show.
Anyway, love what you're doing. Thanks for the grea thoughts! It makes my work day a little bit better. π

It's really cute as a top. And I think the belt you're wearing with it looks good too.

i love the birdseed fabric, but the front panel is meh. can you cut 3" panels of the shirtfabric(instead of the small strips in the back) and birdseed fabric to make a strip-skirt type of dynamic? like this one: http://166.70.211.220/info/featured-products/Make-a-Stripwork-Ribbon-Top.htm
if you can't wear it, surely sam can wear it in a year!just add an elastic waistband..

I like it as a top… pull it up a little more and throw a cardigan or maybe even a vest over it…. make it boho chic and rock it, mama! π
