So I have this idea for a vlog…
You know when something is making the Pinterest rounds & it looks amazing, like the pin to SOLVE ALL OF YOUR LIFE TROUBLES. Or at least a beauty, crafting, cooking or cleaning problem. You wonder though, could it really be that easy? Does it really work?
I’ve decided to be your little guinea pig with glasses & try out those mysterious pins. (Remember Craftbusters? This is the evolved version)
I think this could be fun but the only way it will work is if you guys send me suggestions of what you’d like to see tested out. Leave a comment, hit me with an email, post on my facebook or twitter. I don’t care how you get there, just get here iffff you caaan. (does anyone else hear songs in their head while they’re typing?)
First up is a pin I saw last week that looked too darn good to be true. If it was true however it could be a major hairstyling time saver!
The idea is you braid your hair in two sections then run a flat-iron over your braids to create lovely, carefree, beachy waves. The girl who posted it has beautiful before/after pictures but I was skeptical.
Sooo…..
Ali
I saw this on Pinterest, tried it and it did NOT work for me! I was kind of disappointed 🙁
Nadia
1. when I did it, my hair was dry.
2. when you do your braids, put them in high ponytails like you’d see a 3 year old wear them.
3. remember, don’t just run the flat iron down the twisted braid so quickly. flat iron downwards as you did but leave it there for 20-30 seconds (each hair section that fits in the flat iron). than repeat once more. hope that helps 😉
Natasha
Hmm, good tip, that makes more sense than the way she did it…

Love this.. Your so cute!! I have been doing a few of the hair styles from pinterest too..I’ve had a few come out and a few not so much. I but have wanted to try the style you did above. Now thanks to your awesome video I know it’s a major fail.
..I love the pinbuster concept..I’m onboard..
Whitney
LOVE LOVE!
Please do more of these!!!
Trish h
It didn’t work for me either! Great idea I will have to email you the ones that didn’t work for me!
samantha
Loved the Vlog! Great Idea
I did the Crayon thing, i can send you pics of my outcome….
Jenn
How about the one where you inject lemons with food coloring to make them bright colors?
Natasha
Ooo, I just saw that one last night! Good one!
AndreaR
Oh I hope I get to see you try this one too! I really wanted to try it myself, but was wondering if it would turn out well.
a
I saw the same pin too and was totally considering trying this tomorrow..will not now. bust or nail this one http://pinterest.com/pin/94716398383095896/ I tried it but think i needed a higher bump it.

This one please! This isn’t my craftfail, but it pretty much could have been. What did I do wrong?

I LOVE this idea! Here are some pins I’m wondering about:

I tried to cook an egg inside an avocado like I’ve seen all over Pinterest, but it was terrible! It took so long, the egg was too big for the whole in the avocado, and it spilled everywhere and I couldn’t get it off my muffin tin. If you can get this to work, let me know!
Natasha
Oh that’s a great one!! I think I might even have it pinned myself!
Jacquie
This is great, Natasha! I love the idea. I would love to see the one with the nailpolish in the water. If you haven’t seen it, they have a bowl of water, drip several colors of nailpolish in it, swirl it around with a toothpick (or something similar) and tape off the skin near your nail, dip it in and they have beautiful designs. I’d love to see if it really works.
Jaime
This one does work! But it’s a one-shot deal, and takes awhile time to dry. Check YouTube for videos.
Lisa
this does work for awesome easy waves. It’s been my go-to second day hair style for the last couple months…http://whoorl.com/archives/9638
Erin
I tried this and mine looked the exact same!
I did it two ways…
One like you did at first, with two braids also like the Pin did…epic fail.
Second I Made like 5 braids all over my head..idiotic..thought it would work, it didn’t it was Curly Sue gone horribly wrong!
Thanks for the “Busted”.
Not all things on Pinterest work…*sad*
Jennifer
Love this idea!!! Will see whats out there for you to try 🙂
Leigh Anne
What a cool idea! All of my stuff “pinned” on Pinterest is craft/sewing stuff or recipes….so not much interesting there 🙂 But, if I do come across something…will send it your way. Love your vlog’s…..you are too cute & funny!

I do something that has a similar technique, without the braids (just twist and blowdry instead of braid/twist/flatiron… gives relaxed natural-looking curls that make me look friendly and easygoing, apparently with my natural straight hair I’m a bit intimidating lol) here are a few things you could try to increase the chance of it working…
1) let your hair cool completely before undoing it
2) ‘piece’ your hair back into curls afterwards, taking individual strands and spinning them in the right direction… I learned how to piece curls and waves from this video
http://babesinhairland.com/more/tips-and-tricks/curlformer-how-to-videos/
(video number two)
and I have super ridic fine hair that NEVER hold a curl, but since I learned how to piece curls I have had SO much more luck with curls! (and I have curlformers too, lol.)
Amanda
The sock bun! I couldn’t do it and I was so upset!
Jill Pierce
Oh the sock bun..Well I tried it and it was a big fail the first time I did it. I have super straight hair so I decided to curl my hair first before I rolled it up again. It worked like a charm on my curled hair and it stayed in a bun pretty well.
Cate
Oh God the sock bun….sock buns unfortunately do work. As a military woman it’s my everyday uniform hairstyle only it’s not cute at all because my hair has to be perfectly gelled flat with no fly always. Sock buns take a bit to practice to get just right. And after 3 years I still can’t roll my own sock.
Meg
OH! I have a whole board dedicated to this on Pinterest called “too good to be true ideas to test” …turns out it only has one pin (still untested): http://pinterest.com/meglea/too-good-to-be-true-ideas-to-test/ hahaha… but it looks worth a shot: Clean the microwave and leave it smelling sweet with this household trick! Mix 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a microwave-safe container, and zap it on high for five minutes. When it’s done, remove the container and wipe down the interior of the oven. Any gunk should slide right off.
Natasha
Oh! Can I steal some pins from your board? I love that you have a board completely dedicated to ‘too good to be true’, very clever
Rahnee
I don’t know about the vanilla, but lemon juice really does work and it only takes 90 seconds instead of 5 minutes!
I would imagine that for 5 minutes, it’s the steam from the water that is doing the cleaning.
Ashley @ C is for Cockerham
Awesome idea. You should definitely collect all of your results and make a board titled, “BUSTED,” so people can stop repinning those things!
I really want to try this simple fix at my house. I haven’t been willing to sacrifice any of my rugs to test it out yet. Most of our rugs have actual slip pads under them, but those lil pads get expensive and still seem to work their way out.
Natasha
YES! I’ve been meaning to do that one too and I totally forgot!
Jill Pierce
Cool idea. I’ll have see what I can find for you to pinbust.
Whitney
I’ve tried this before! It was a total bust for me too. Have you seen the No Heat Headband Curls? I ALSO thought that was way too easy and too good to be true. I tried it, slept on it and it worked PERFECTLY! You don’t even need to sleep on it. I’ve kept them in for as little as two hours and got good waves. I now swear by the style and do it pretty regularly. So easy, such pretty curls!
I’ve also had lots of success with the sock bun. 🙂
Natasha
sock bun I’m totally in love with…haven’t tried the headband one, that’s going to have to definitely go on the list though, sounds too intriguing!
Rebecca
I tried the “drunk gummies” this past weekend. Wow! I first tried them with cake vodka. After 3 days, biting into them was like drinking straight vodka! Horrible! So then I decided I’d give it another try with peach schnapps. They were a little more tolerable, but still pretty nasty. And they got incredibly slimy (think of a kid spitting the gummy into your hand…yeah….gross). Needless to say, there has to be some other trick that I don’t know about and I won’t be taking those to a party again.
Natasha
You know what’s so funny, I’m totally working on this one! And let me say, after one week, UGH, nasty! But now that they’ve been in the fridge a little over two weeks they’re actually getting pretty good! Strong but tasty. I’m hashing out a martini recipe with them with watermelon vodka…hope to have it up next week…
Lucy
Great vlog! Have you tried the ‘ no heat curls using a headband’ supposed to work really well.
Amanda- keep working with the sock bun. I have really long straight hair and it took me a few tries to get the sock bun technique right, but it’s totally worth trying.
Claudia
I tried the headband one. The result: funky curls, and I don’t mean funky in a good way. That said, I love the way the hair looks tucked into the headband. Reminds me of a 1920s do 🙂
Joanna
I did the headband one, too. I took a picture it was so bad. The front was kinky frizzy horror and the back was wavy at the very most. I also had to cut the headband off my head. I wish I could post pictures here, it’s pretty hilarious. There’s probably a way, but I’m an idiot.
Claudia
LOVE this idea!! I’ve actually started it (ha, only one recipe so far) on my blog.
So here’s another one I tried: Putting a wooden spoon over a boiling pot to prevent the pot from boiling over. The verdict: FAIL!
I started the one about making your own house cleaner using only orange peels (I used tangerine, figured it’s the same family) and vinegar. I put the vinegar and peels together about a week ago – they said you have to wait 10 days or so for the vinegar smell to go away. So far it seems to be working but the true test will come when I actually use it.

I really want to try the sock bun curls on Pinterest, but my hair at the moment is too short. Can you give it a go so I know if it will work when my hair grows out?

Karen
Please do more of these! I am always trying out the stuff I see on Pinterest but it would be great to see someone else try as well. That way at least I don’t feel like I’m the the only failure! 🙂
Jessica
Totally love this idea, and love that you did this pin, because I too pinned this and tried it at home and had similar results to you!! and i was veryyyyy disappointed. However, I will say that I did try this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLeSKaPaUOA
however i used a bandana, and it did work. I slept with mine overnight and it did come out some, and i also didn’t use any hair spray so it didn’t stay too long, but it did work!!!
Natasha
Oo, I’m going to have to try that one, thanks!!
Jessica
So I tried the braided version of this and it definitely didn’t work. Then I saw another pin that suggested twisting the hair instead of braiding it. So I tried that, and at first I got the same result–nothing. But I was determined, so I tried it with larger and smaller sections and ran the iron over it really slowly about 8 times, and it started to curl, but it looked more like a wave/crimp. Not really my style, but I was impressed to see some kind of outcome. Though if you do try it, I suggest putting on some heat protectant for your hair. Can’t wait to see more! I usually try them along with you! 🙂
Joan
This absolutely works I use it often. I use 4 braids braided close to the scalp (not low and loose). Slowly flat iron root to tips for about 30 sec-1 min on each braid depending on how thick your hair is. (It’s not magic – the wave has to set with the heat). Then leave them in until they cool off 15 minutes or so – while you get ready. Add some product for hold. I like cocky from tigi – a small amount rubbed into palms and gently scrunched onto ends and then shaft.

I saw the ombre nails pintrest and think u should test.that one. Very help video
sarah
it worked for me but im biracial
Nichole
works way better if you dont braid it first in my opinion. just twist it tight and run the straightener down in (not “through” it) about two times. but you cant just run your fingers through it because it breaks the curl that was just created. You have to gently pull the twisty curl apart. I also seperate my hair into 4-8 sections depending on how tight I want the curl/wave. my hair is very coarse and thick and this works wonders for me (and my hair does NOT hold style) you just have to find the way it works best for you.
Natasha
Hmmm, I never thought of trying that, thanks! I’m totally going to try it your way!
Heather
Great idea this pin busters!
A.Grace
No offense, but if you’re going to try something, do it CORRECTLY–like follow the directions. You rushed through the flat ironing, and then didn’t let the curls set and cool down (which is part of EVERY single tutorial if you actually look them up and read allllll the way to the end–not difficult…)
I do this all the time. Four braids, in dry hair. Flat iron slowly. Then get ready/brush your teeth/eat breakfast, whatever.. Then, RIGHT before you take them out, apply a bit of product or hairspray. Take them out. Try three if four is too “curly sue” for you. Try five braids if the curl/wave seems too loosey-goosey. It’s MAD easy, and the fact you failed at it kinda makes me wonder about you, not about these pins you’re supposed to be testing. It’s not rocket science that if you don’t follow directions, you don’t get a good response….
Natasha
Ohhh, I’ll def try it again, thanks for taking the time to let me know the right way! (:
