I was going through my closet over the weekend trying to decide what I could bear to part with (it was an epic disaster) when I pulled these sweeties off the top shelf…
My wedding shoes, sigh.
I used some hotfix Swarovski crystals to embellish the bottoms & also double as my “something blue”. Although if you don’t have a hotfix tool you could easily use flatback blue crystals & super glue them on. I distinctively remember tweezers coming in handy.
Come to think of it, I never crafted too much until my wedding & then those darn issues of Martha Stewart Weddings sucked me in. I’ve been an addict ever since. But hey, I guess it’s served me pretty well. Did you/are you doing any DIY’s for your wedding??

I just did away with my wedding heels, and kept the flats that I wore to the reception. We diy’d a lot of our wedding projects, the save the dates and invitations, programs, flowers, favor boxes, etc… We even had our guests help paint a canvas for us at the reception. An artsy friend drew on the lines of a painting we loved and we provided paints that they they could do a sort of paint by number using the orignial. Arg, all of my pictures are stuck on the hard drive of my busted computer though.

About 85% of my wedding was DIY! I think the creative craft therapy helped calm the stress a little! I do still have my wedding shoes, a white pair of old navy flip flops (I figured no one would see my feet so I might as well be comfortable!)

We did some DIYs for my wedding. I couldn’t find “just right” invitations, so we made the PERFECT ones! My favorite DIY was my mom’s doing. She covered the ring bearer’s pillow with handkerchiefs that my nana had embroidered. That pillow was then part of my “something blue” as well as a little bit of my nana’s presence in my ceremony!

I did the same kind of thing with my shoes! I also made our programs. I created all the bouquets and grooms bout using felt flowers and buttons. Plus the center pieces. Lol I was a diy fiend!

My daughter got married last year and we (and she and her fiance) did lots of DIY for hers. Things like the garter, ring bearer’s pillow, envelope liners, escort card frame thing. I got married in 1983, and the most DIY we did was to make the bridesmaid’s dresses. And I still have my wedding shoes.

I did my own invitations….200 of them…each one slightly different. I was able to buy the invitation kits at Michaels really cheap and print it out on a nice printer. Then each plain invitation got an upgrade. I used glued on flowers, sticker back crystals, ribbons etc. and did different patters, colors, and combinations.
It was the best and worst idea ever. It took a ton of time but I think people felt like they were special because I made each one unique. I reproduced two of my favorite designs for us to keep. One with just some of the sticker backed crystals (they were small) in flower shaped patterns along the left hand side of the invitation and the other one with a lilac ribbon with a flower glued onto it.

Most of my wedding was DIY. My mother is an excellent seamstress. So she made all of the following, my wedding dress & veil, bridesmaid dress, two hand smocked flower girl dresses, and two paige boy outfits which were hand embroidered on the vests. I made my ear rings, my bridesmaid’s earings and necklace and we had matching watches that I made. The invitations were made by myself, mom & sister. We made the bonbonniers. And that’s about it 🙂

I did the same thing to my shoes with blue rhinestones, except with my new initials. It was also my “something blue.” I also put together all of the seating cards for the reception with my sister. That was my crafty contribution to my wedding.

what a great idea for your shoes! my shoes themselves were blue 🙂 i knit my wedding shawl, made a quilted chuppa, and kint 5 shawls (one for each mother & grandmother) that we draped over the chuppa and got married under, made a coordinating ring bearer pillow & smash bag for our wineglass, and had everyone send us handmade art that we decorated our venue with. i love the diy aspects of weddings! so fun!

for some reason, I’m not getting all of the pictures again (using Firefox). But what I do see looks good — a sweet idea!

I love Martha!

I made 250 folded origami paper fans as favours. It took me three months, so any other crafts I had planned got quickly forgotten. People used them at the wedding (it was a hot August day) but then left them behind.

Anything I could do myself, I did. I even decorated my own wedding high heel tennis shoes. I loved them. I did save the date cards, invitations, ring bearer pillow, coloring books for the kids, decorated the flower girl basket, favors, and flowers for the whole wedding party including parents. I love that stuff, but I was sure glad when it was over.
